HyperVelocity Technology

The LZ601 uses a piece of technology dubbed HyperVelocity which is a high-speed motor to deliver maximum airflow—up to 66 CFM—for accelerated cleaning performance. This much airflow generally means flawless cleaning performance on bare floors and carpets (with the assistance of the brushrolls which we’ll get into in a bit) by lifting and removing all types of debris.

Don’t be put-off by its stick-vac-like design; this slim UpLight is packing a lot more heat than it looks like it should handle.

Convertible Lift-Away Handheld Canister

The LZ601’s canister is designed to be lifted away to make spot-cleaning higher-up surfaces a quick, effortless task. Lift-Away technology instantly converts this stick/upright into a handheld canister where, with the use of numerous cleaning tools, users can clean auto interios, ceiling fans, drapes, and carpeted steps without lifting the entire unit overhead.

This is not a Powered Lift-Away model so the brushroll on the cleaning tools are not motor-driven but rather air-driven by HyperVelocity Tech.

Cleaning Tools

Speaking of which, Shark provides customers with a two-piece set of cleaning tools along with the convenience accessory bag. These are 2-in-1 duster/crevice tool and the Pet Multi-Tool.

These attachments work like any other from any brand by fitting into tight—the former cleans tight, hard-to-reach spaces while the latter excels at removing hair from upholstery and other soft surfaces. Shark has a wide range of cleaning attachments available for the LZ601 for users to pick up separately.

DuoClean Brushrolls

Similar to many of Shark’s other uprights, the LZ601 is equipped with DuoClean Brushrolls. This setup uses a large rear brushroll to dig deep into carpets and a smaller one with delicate bristles in the front to “polish” smooth floors as it cleans. The two working in tandem offers an amazing cleaning experience that only Shark can deliver.

Self-Cleaning, Anti-Tangle Brushroll

Perhaps the shining feature of the LZ601 is its self-cleaning brushroll. It does not use Zero-M technology which has been notably bad in the past, but instead the front brush’s bristles continuously roll hair around to clump it up without tangling for quick and easy removal.

In the end, all you’ll need to do is flip the vacuum head over to pull out the clumped-up furball. For those of you with pets, this ingenious design is a real life and time saver.

HEPA Filter

Here’s another feature that pet owners will appreciate. Inside of the 0.66-quart dust cup is a handy HEPA filter that’s made to trap up to 99.9% of particles of 0.3 microns or bigger. Common floor pollutants like dander, pet hair, pollen, and dust mites will never get past this filter and escape through the vacuum’s exhaust.

The HEPA filter needs to be replaced every six months or so depending on how quickly it becomes clogged—there will be a noticeable reduction in suction power and cleaning performance.

Free-Standing with Retractable Rear Wheels

Though technically a stick vacuum, the LZ601 employs some handy upright features to enhance the user’s experience. For instance, it has retractable rear wheels which allow the unit to stand upright without requiring a surface to lean on.

This will make maintenance jobs in the middle of a cleaning session a lot less frustrating. Furthermore, it allows for quick and easy storage while also taking up very little floor space.

30-foot Power Cord

Last but not least is the mega-long 30-foot power cord. This corded model admittedly ties you down to a wall outlet, but with a 30-foot radius of movement plus the six-foot hose length, you’ll have plenty of space to move about.

Verdict: Should I Get the Shark LZ601 Lift Away Self Cleaning Brushroll Upright Vacuum?

Overall, there are plenty of things about the Shark LZ601 to love. For instance, the combination of amazing suction and DuoClean Brushrolls leads to a fantastic cleaning experience that only Shark can guarantee.

Plus, the self-cleaning, anti-tangle brushroll along with the retractable wheels makes cleanup and maintenance a breeze. Furthermore, the HEPA filter works beautifully at trapping almost every speck of dust and piece of debris on your floors to eliminate the need for double-passes.
