Dyson has built a name for itself in the world of vacuum cleaners. The company is trusted by many families all over the country because of the many amazing vacuum cleaners and the wide range of options available. From compact stick vacuums to powerful upright models, there’s something for everyone from Dyson.
Today, we will be looking at two of their portable stick vacuums. These vacuums are made to be compact, easy to store, but powerful enough to pick up both large and small particles from both hard and carpeted floors.
We will be comparing the Dyson V11 Animal and the Dyson V11 Torque Drive to identify the similarities and differences between these two models. Since the V11 is Dyson’s flagship model, these two stick vacuums come packed with top of the range features and capabilities that are hard to find on a stick vacuum.

Vacuum cleaners are all about picking up particles from our floors, furniture, and upholstery, so suction is a very important metric when comparing different models. Both these vacuums come with the V11 digital motor that comes with a rating of 185 air watts at maximum suction.
When compared to most other stick vacuums, this suction is far much superior. This means that you will be able to easily pick up most of the stains that you will be likely to come across at home. Even flour and other fine particles will be easy to pick up on most surfaces thanks to this powerful suction.
Convertible stick vacuums are all about portability. How easy is it to vacuum the floor using the vacuum? How about cleaning the ceiling, curtains, and upholstery? Will it give you any trouble when you need to clean the car?
These are some of the questions that you will need to answer when you are looking for a convertible stick vacuum. Fortunately, with the Dyson V11 Animal and Torque Drive vacuums, you have nothing to worry about when it comes to portability.
Both vacuums come with a weight of 6.68 pounds, which is easy to carry around as you clean. Whether you are cleaning the ceiling or the floor, you will have no challenges accessing the various parts of your home using these vacuums.
At 0.76 liters, the bin in the Dyson V11 Animal and Torque Drive is not the biggest in the market. There are other models with bins that have larger capacities. However, this doesn’t mean that you will have to empty it multiple times in a cleaning run. It is still enough for holding all the dirt particles that you will collect in a typical cleaning run.
Another important consideration when shopping for cordless vacuums is the number of cleaning modes. You don’t want a model that comes with only one cleaning mode because it will either be too powerful for standard cleaning and drain your battery very fast, or it can come with low power consumption and deliver mediocre cleaning results.
To ensure that you don’t find yourself suffering as a result of this, both these models come with three power modes. The first mode is the Eco Mode that maximizes the battery life by reducing the suction and motor speed.
If you need to clean an area with particularly stubborn stains, then the Boost Mode will step up the suction and cleaning performance. However, this improved performance will drain the battery faster so your runtime will be significantly reduced.
Finally, there is the Auto mode that gives you the best of both worlds. It automatically monitors the area that you are cleaning and adapts the motor speeds and suction levels to ensure that you get a clean floor without having to worry about cleaning modes.
Filtration is another important consideration in any vacuum cleaner. You don’t want to find yourself with a vacuum cleaner that leaves you sneezing every time it’s running because it releases small dust particles back into your indoor air.
Fortunately, with these two models, filtration is very effective with a HEPA filter that will catch up to 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns. This means that dust, mold, pet dander, and other allergens will not be present in the exhaust air that is released back into your home.
Another great benefit of the filter that comes with these portable stick vacuums is the fact that it is a washable HEPA filter that will not cost you anything when it gets filled with dirt. Just wash it every few weeks using cold water and leave it to dry for 24 hours and it will be as good as new!
This is one area where you will note a small difference between the Dyson V11 Animal and the Dyson V11 Torque Drive. In addition to having all the accessories that are available in the V11 Animal, the Torque Drive will come with a second dusting brush that comes in very handy when you need to vacuum delicate areas like car interiors or delicate parts of your furniture.
The other accessories that you will get on both these vacuums include the long crevice tool, a dirt brush, a mini motorized tool, a combination tool that functions as a short crevice tool, a dusting brush, and the docking station that provides an accessible and easy to use wall-mounted storage and charging solution.
The screen is another major distinguishing factor between the Animal and Torque Drive V11.
The Dyson V11 Animal only has a basic LED screen that will tell you the cleaning mode that is selected and an estimate of the remaining battery life. It also gives you maintenance alerts like when the filter needs to be cleaned.
On the other hand, the Dyson V11 Torque Drive will come with a bit more. It has an LCD screen that is able to show you much more than the LED screen on the Animal. In addition to telling you the cleaning mode and giving you maintenance alerts, this screen will give you a real-time countdown of the remaining battery life.
These are two very similar high-end cordless stick vacuum cleaners. They will easily and quickly convert to handheld vacuums. When it comes to performance, both these vacuums are quite similar. However, if you don’t mind spending more on a better screen that gives you a clearer estimate of the remaining battery life, then the Torque Drive is the option to go for.
